Curative en bloc resection for early esophageal, gastric, and colorectal neoplasia without external incisions. Retain 100% of your digestive anatomy, avoid traumatic organ removal, with typical clinical observation of approximately 3 to 5 days under the clinical direction of Prof. Xu Shuchang at Shanghai Tongji Hospital (Tier-3A).
Traditional surgical treatment for gastric and colorectal tumors frequently involves subtotal or total organ resection (gastrectomy, hemicolectomy), leading to permanent loss of digestive reservoir capacity, dumping syndrome, and substantial nutritional deficits.
Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) accesses the tumor directly through the natural mouth or anal canal using high-definition electronic endoscopes. Using a micro-knife (such as the Dual Knife or IT Knife), the surgeon injects a physiological submucosal cushioning fluid to elevate the tumor away from the muscularis propria, and meticulously dissects the diseased submucosal plane millimeter by millimeter. The lesion is removed intact with complete lateral and vertical margins.
Our gastroenterology endoscopy center operates the flagship Olympus CV-290 EVIS LUCERA ELITE platform. Integrated Narrow-Band Imaging (NBI) and optical dual-focus magnification enable our specialists to inspect microvascular and microsurface architecture down to cellular detail, clearly demarcating neoplastic boundaries before the first incision is made.

Following resection, the specimen is pinned and subjected to microscopic 2mm step-section histopathological mapping. An ESD is confirmed oncologically curative when:
Analyze organ preservation benefits, typical ~3-5 day observation vs 10-14 days open stay, and post-operative dietary quality of life.
Step-by-step diagnostic guidelines: EUS depth verification, biopsy staging, and pre-trip international DICOM checklist.

Eligibility requires that the tumor is confined to the mucosal or superficial submucosal layer (SM1 < 500μm) without signs of lymph node metastasis. Submit your endoscopy photos, biopsy pathology report, and abdominal CT scans to our team for pre-screening by Prof. Xu Shuchang.
Patients are typically admitted 1 day prior for bowel preparation or pre-op routine checks. The ESD procedure takes 1 to 2 hours under intravenous sedation. Patients resume a clear liquid diet within 24 to 48 hours and typical observation is approximately 3 to 5 days, subject to attending physician assessment.
